Lorne Michaels, creator of “Saturday Night Live” is set to receive the Governor General’s arts award this year for lifetime achievement in the arts this year.

Canadian Press reports that Michaels joins the likes of other Canuck musician Robbie Robertson, broadcaster Jacques Languirand, actor and director Albert Millaire, dancer and writer Joysanne Sidimus and producer Mark Starowicz, who will also receive prizes this year.

“It’s the country that defined me. It’s the country that educated me. It’s the country whose values I absorbed,” Michaels told CP in an interview.

Michaels says he is honoured to receive such recognition from his home country.

“When you don’t live in Canada and you just come back a couple times of year … you know how much you remember the country, you’re not sure how much the country remembers you.”

The recipients were announced yesterday.
