Usher to Extend Broadway Run
It’s not often that you get to see an Usher as the star of a Broadway play, and R&B performer, Usher, seems to be banking on this as he has extended his performance in the musical “Chicago,” reports MTV.
The singer began his run with the show playing sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn on Aug. 22. He was initially slated to perform the role only until the end of this month, but has extended his engagement for two weeks, until Oct. 14.
In a statement, co-producer Barry Weissler said, “I am so happy to have concluded the negotiation for the extension, which certainly makes Usher the King of Broadway!”
Although Weissler may truly believe the multi-talented performer to be the King of Broadway, he is not the first pop performer to dance in Flynn’s shoes. Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson and “Titanic” actor Billy Zane also performed the role on Broadway in 2002.
