An incomplete book by Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien has been finished by his son and will be published next year.

“The Children of Hurin” was started by the writer in 1918, but he later abandoned the story. His son, Christopher, has spent the last 30 years completely the epic work and readying it for publication.

“It has seemed to me for a long time that there was a good case for presenting my father’s long version of the legend of the ‘Children of Hurin’ as an independent work, between its own covers,” read a statement from the junior Tolkien, according to the Associated Press.

The story features the elves and dwarves from Tolkien’s Middle Earth, and excerpts of the tale have been published before.

The completed book will be published in Britain and the United States by HarperCollins and Houghton Mifflin, respectively.
