A birthday bash commemorating Freddy Mercury’s birthday in his home country of Zanzibar is being ordered not to go on.
Officials for the Muslim population in the country have told the Associated Press that they will not respect any celebrations honouring the later Mercury because he was gay, which is against the Muslim religion.
That’s why he was branded a Queen,” Azan Khalid said, adding that the Muslim leaders would try to halt the party being planned by Mercury’s restaurant.
The restaurant maintains that the show must go on.
Mercury was the frontman of Queen and died in 1991 of AIDS.
