Sony BMG has signed on to help release Kevin Federline’s upcoming debut record, “Playing With Fire.”

E! Online reports that the record will be put out on Federline’s Federation Records, with Sony BMG handling the distribution (subsidiary Jive Records has long been the label home of Federline’s wife, pop star Britney Spears).

It’s quite a risky move for the company, as Federline’s music has been receiving a cold reception from critics. Last week, his performance of the first single from “Play With Fire” on the Teen Choice Awards garnered mostly negative reviews.

For anyone planning on actually buying Federline’s album, it should be available sometime in October.
