CNN Apologizes for Mic Mix-Up
CNN couldn’t have picked a worse time to accidentally leave anchor Kyra Phillips’ microphone on as she chatted off-camera — the incident occurred right in the middle of a live speech by President George Bush.
The “Live From…” host was talking with an unidentified woman in a CNN washroom when her mic overrode the audio feed from Bush, reports the Associated Press. He was speaking in New Orleans on the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Phillips called most men “assholes,” but said she is “very lucky in that regard. My husband is handsome and he is genuinely a loving – you know, no ego – you know what I’m saying? Just a really passionate, compassionate, great, great human being. And they exist. They do exist. They’re hard to find. Yup. But they are out there.”
She went on to say how “brothers have to be, you know, protective,” though she has to be protective of her brother because “his wife is just a control freak.”
Another voice then cut in to tell Phillips to turn off her microphone, and that she had been on-air. The audio mishap had gone on for more than a minute and a half.
Phillips later apologized on-air, saying she was sorry “for an issue we had with our mikes” and “for a little bit of an interruption there during the president.”
CNN issued an official apology “to our viewers and the president for the disruption,” saying they were looking into how the incident occurred and “why it was not more promptly corrected on air.”
