The top three “Canadian Idol” contestants will be mentored by a legend.

CTV has announced that the top three, who will perform in two weeks, will be mentored by Tony Bennett in New York City.

The appearance by the classic singer will also be Bennett’s first on any Idol franchise anywhere in the world, CTV boasts.

The top three will have their choice in picking songs from Bennett’s songbook, a career which has spanned nearly 50 years and won him 13 Grammy awards.

“Back in the 1950s, I was just starting out with Rosemary Clooney and we were on a live talent show ourselves — so we were the first Idols. I am looking forward to working with the young talent that is in Canada and am thrilled to be making an appearance on Canadian Idol,” Bennett said about his upcoming appearance.

As well, Bennett will be performing on the results show, which will be an hour long, as opposed to the half an hour it normally is.

Bennett’s episodes of “Canadian Idol” will air on Sept. 4 and 5.
