Tom Cruise Quit, Wasn’t Fired, Says His Camp
Tom Cruise wasn’t fired by Paramount, but rather he quit.
At least that’s what his business partner has been telling the media, the New York Times reports.
Paula Wagner, who is a partner is Cruise-Wagner Productions, says she and Cruise had been talking for the last few days about severing their ties with Paramount. She also says the two of them already have funding in place for a new movie.
“This is something we’ve dreamt of, to have an independently financed production company, where we can decide the films that we make, from high-concept to more personal pictures,” she said.
“I think we’re in the forefront of a trend.”
Paramount says it decided to let Cruise go because of his personal behaviour in the last year. From jumping on Oprah’s couch in a profession of love for fiancé Katie Holmes, to telling Matt Lauer he knows something about psychiatry, Cruise’s behaviour over the last year-and-a-half has been a little odd at times.
“I have no answer for a stupid statement,” Wagner said when she was asked what she thought about the reason Paramount gave for letting Cruise go.
