Jake Gyllenhaal is the front runner to play Lance Armstrong in a film biopic based on the life of the cyclist, Moviehole.net reports.

When the talks began about the film, rumours circulated that Matt Damon would play Armstrong, but more recently it has been Gyllenhaal name that has surfaced.

Further fuelling the rumours that Gyllenhaal is set to play Armstrong is the rumours that the cycling training he has been doing with Armstrong is actually research for the role.

Armstrong and Gyllenhaal have been seen cycling together, and with fellow movie star, Matthew McConaughey.

Gyllenhaal received an Oscar nomination for his portrayl of a gay cowboy in last year’s “Brokeback Mountain.”

Reports say that Damon had to drop the project due to “his busy schedule.”
