Snakes On A Plane Number One – Or Are They?
Looks like the online hype for “Snakes On a Plane” helped the flick a lot, it slithered into the number one spot in the North American box office for the past weekend, E! Online reports.
Well, technically, it was first anyways. The film took in $15.2 million – a figure which includes sneak preview screenings on Thursday night (normally Thursdays are not counted in the weekend tally, unless the film opened on a Wednesday). Without the Thursday screenings added in, “Snakes on a Plane” would have only taken in just under $14 million.
Which means that rival studio, Sony, is saying that their film: “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” is actually the first place film, for the third week in a row. The Will Ferrell comedy took in $14.1 million.
“World Trade Center” held steady at number three, taking in $10.8 million, while “Accepted” debuted in fourth with $10.1 million.
The rest of the top 10 included: “Step Up” in fifth with $9.8 million; “Barnyard” in sixth with $7.4 million; “Little Miss Sunshine” in seventh with $5.6 million; “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” in eighth with $5 million (bringing its North American total to over $400 million); “Material Girls” at nine with $4.6 million; and “Pulse” in tenth with $3.5 million.
