Scrubs star John C. McGinley proposed to his girlfriend Nichole Kessler in Malibu on Saturday.

“At about 9:30 this morning I asked Nicole to come down to the lower part of the garden with me in Malibu. I wanted to show her some different flower ideas I had. And I had the rock in my pocket. I told her, ‘Sit down here to see the view of the ocean’ – we live in a bird sanctuary – and I said, ‘Will you marry me?’ and I took out the rock,” said McGinley, reports People.

The rock was a “2-carat round diamond flanked by two 1-carat diamonds and a couple of smaller baguettes”. McGinley wanted a large rock in the middle to symbolize Nicole because “she is the rock in this relationship.” The two diamonds on both sides of it represent McGinley himself and his son, while the smaller rocks represent their future children. Mervin Haan designed the stunning ring.

After accepting his proposal, McGinley explain the ring’s significance to her.

“I think I was speechless for about five minutes after John told me what the diamonds meant. I was just in tears and just beside myself. I’m still beside myself,” said Kessler.

McGinley, 47, and Kessler, 34, met in the park thanks to his son Max. While McGinley was playing with this dogs, Max approached Kessler. McGinley joined them and it started a beautiful relationship.

McGinley has one son Max, 9, from his previous marriage to Lauren Lambert. Max suffers from Down syndrome.

No date has been set yet. “It’s still that trembling, oh-my-God-we-got-engaged stage. I don’t have one of those fairytale wedding ideas,” said Kessler.
