Whoever says reality TV is dead never bothered to tell Broadway.

Despite the horrendous response to “The One” on ABC last month, NBC has agreed to air a reality show entitled “You’re The One That I Want.”

The reality show will allow viewers to vote on who gets cast in the lead roles of Sandy and Danny in a Broadway revival of the hit musical “Grease,” Reuters reports.

The reality show is a spin-off of one that aired in Britain called “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria,” where the lead role in “The Sound of Music” was cast. The American show will be produced by BBC Worldwide Productions, which also produced the show in Britain.

“Americans have grown up with these catchy tunes and appealing characters, and we think they’ll love the chance to select the next dynamic duo to play Sandy and Danny,” NBC’s Craig Plestis said in a press release about the show.

“You’re The One That I Want” is set as a mid-season replacement for the upcoming fall season, the Broadway revival of “Grease” is set to premiere on stage on Broadway in June of 2007.
