Canadian Idol is down to its final six competitors, after this week’s rock themed episode.

The show kicked off with the Idols singing along side Denis D. Young of Styx in a performance of the band’s classic “Babe,” followed directly with them performing with Roger Hodgson in the Supertramp smash “Give A Little Bit,” which was recently redone by the Goo Goo Dolls. The two performances were given a standing ovation by the four judges.

Then Mulroney got right down to business, after a commercial break, of course.

Or so we thought.

Instead, we were treated to a medley from Hodgson and Young filled with Supertramp and Styx hits which ended in a standing ovation from the audience.

Then after another commercial break, Mulroney finally got down to business.

The bottom two were Steffi D and Rob James.

Rob was sent home. His road was considered one of the toughest because he had a previous recording career as part of the duo “McMaster and James” in the late ’90s. Many posters on the Idol message boards thought it was unfair when he got into the top 10.

“Rob is an incredibly talented person. But it’s the exceptionally talented that get a break,” judge Zack Werner said before the elimination was announced.

Next week the show will be unplugged, instead of the Idols being backed by a live band, and will feature a performance by Chantel Kreviazuk.
