American Idol To Add Songwriting Contest
“American Idol” will be offering a songwriting contest in its next season, E! Online reports.
The winner of the contest will write the first single for the wannabe crowned “American Idol.” The songwriter does not have to be a contestant in the running for Idol, but is rather going to be a sideline competition with the one going on onstage.
So far, producers are only saying that the top two selections will be sung by the top two finalists, however, they admit that if the caliber of songs they receive is high, other finalists may sing some of the entries as well.
Until this contest, the Idol winner’s song was usually written by an industry insider, something producer Simon Fuller called a “thankless task.”
No further details are available about the Idol spin-off competition.
