Photos of Idols Must Receive Approval
Just because it’s a reality TV show doesn’t mean “American Idol” will allow photos to be taken of their summer concerts.
E! Online is reporting that at the kick off concert for the tour in New Hampshire, photographers had to have any pictures they took of the concert approved by 19 Entertainment Limited before they could be published.
To protest the policy, the New Hampshire Union Leader did not send a photographer or reporter to the concert or the press conference before it. Instead it opted to run an editor’s note which stated it would not be running anything on the show because “(the) show’s organizers made an unacceptable demand: the right to review and approve our news photos before publication.”
Fans who attended the Idol meet and greet were allowed to take photos of the Idols, however they were not allowed to pose with them or hand the Idols their cell phones.
The photo policy continued as the concert rolled into Boston, with two publications leaving the show. However, by the time the show rolled into Albany, New York, the policy had been relaxed.
19 Entertainment Limited has not commented on why the policy had been put into place.
