Canada’s newest music prize has picked Wolf Parade, Broken Social Scene and Sarah Harmer to be among its list of nominees.

Organizers with the Polaris Music Prize, which recognizes the year’s best full-length Canadian record, announced their 10 finalists on Tuesday.

The list was distilled from submissions by more than 120 music writers, reviewers and broadcasters across the country.

“The quality of this shortlist is a tribute to our jury’s musical expertise and a testament to how rich and varied the music scene is in this country,” read a statements from Polaris executive director Steve Jordan.

All genres of contemporary music are eligible for the award, but compilations of previously released material (including remixes) are not.

A ten-track compilation album of the nominees’ music will hit stores on August 22.

The winner will be announced during a gala concert and celebration on September 18 at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre.
