New Mars Volta Album Due in August

Psych-rock group The Mars Volta is returning with a new album in August, only a year-and-a-half after the release of their last effort, “Frances the Mute.”

Billboard reports that the album, titled “Amputechture,” should hit streets August 22 on Universal.

Keeping with the band’s catalogue of expansive songs, the eight-track record runs for more than 76 minutes, with one song (“Tetragrammaton”) taking up 17 minutes all by itself.

The album also features contributions from Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante.

Both Frusciante and The Mars Volta can be caught on tour starting in August, when the bands play venues across North America together.
