Jan Murray, one of the original stars of television, died at his Beverly Hills home on Sunday. He was 89.

The New York Times reports that Murray had been suffering from declining health for the past few months, according to his son, Howard Murray.

The elder Murray played host on a number of early television game shows, including “Songs For Sale” (1950-1952) and “Dollar a Second” (1953-1957). He also created and produced his most popular show, “Treasure Hunt,” which ran from 1956 to 1959.

Murray also appeared in about 20 movies and filled in as host for Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show.”

He retired at 82 on account of asthma.
