Peter Pan’s feisty fairy sidekick has finally found her voice.
Walt Disney Co. announced on Tuesday that actress Brittany Murphy will be their first-ever voice for Tinker Bell, reports Reuters. Until now, the winged sprite communicated only through facial expressions and gestures in Disney cartoons.
Tinker Bell is set to return in a direct-to-video release next year. The movie will be part of Disney’s new “Fairies” product line.
“How could one possibly say no to Disney and being the voice of Tinker Bell?” the 28-year-old actress told Reuters. “I thought maybe I’m too spunky or gritty, but that’s who Tinker Bell is.”
Murphy’s spunk and grit have been previously featured in films like “8 Mile,” and as the voice of Luanne on TV’s “King of the Hill.”
