“Canadian Idol” has moved onto the second round of the auditions.

The reality show completed airing auditions around the country last week. This week’s Monday broadcast was pre-empted until Tuesday, so “Canadian Idol” fans had a double dose.

The top 212 which came from across the country went through the next cutting process to trim that number down to 22.

In keeping with the show’s promise of a shocking event, an entire group was axed. Normally, the judges split the groups on the stage into two lines and send one home. However, after a particularly bad round, everyone was told to step forward and were sent home.

After the first round of cutting, which resulted in the elimination of almost 90 competitors, the Idol hopefuls were then assigned groups to perform as a group.

However, Jessica Bettchar, a contestant from Alberta, got word from her hometown that a relative was being taken off life support and she wanted to drop out of the competition and go home.

After cutting another 36 Idol wannabes, the remaining finalists partner up to perform a duet. 32 were cut after that task. The remaining hopefuls then had to perform solo in front of the judges again to trim the remaining 44 down to 22.

As of next week, the Idol television schedule changes ? performance episodes will air on Mondays and Tuesday, with the results show being aired on Wednesdays.

According to CTV, the Top 22 includes 11 women and 11 men representing Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, London, Kitchener, Toronto, Ottawa-Gatineau, Montr?al, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
