Dan Rather may soon be ending his relationship with CBS News after more than 40 years.

An unidentified executive told the Associated Press on Thursday that Rather’s representatives were close to reaching a deal with CBS that would end the newsman’s involvement with the network.

Rather left his position as CBS Evening News anchor last year. He has been working at “60 Minutes” since.

The latest season of “60 Minutes” ended last month, and the 74-year-old Rather has said there had been no talk of extending his role with the show beyond that point.
