Grammy-winning R&B artist Usher rolled up his sleeves (literally, even) on Tuesday to help clean up a New Orleans school devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The musician joined dozens of volunteers in tackling the overgrown lawn of the International School of Louisiana, reports the Associated Press. The school has been closed since the hurricane hit on August 29.

“To see it, in this state, it’s devastating,” Usher said. “I’m here to physically do something and hopefully motivate other people to do the same.”

The school should be open again later this year.

This isn’t Usher’s first contribution to the Katrina relief effort. Shortly after the disaster, he began Project Restart to help Gulf Coast-area families find housing.
