Only a few episodes of Canadian Idol have aired so far this season, but CTV has released the geographic information as to where the finalists hail from.
This year, the top 200 ended up being 212. By province, the numbers are: eight from Newfoundland; 18 from Nova Scotia; four from New Brunswick; 27 from Quebec; 72 from Ontario; 24 from Manitoba; five from Saskatchewan; 28 from Alberta; 24 from B.C; and two from the Northwest Territories.
The judges told andPOP that this year’s top 22 are some of the best competitors they have seen.
“This year, because it’s 22 instead of 32, we’ve done the country the favour of weeding out all the Disney singers so there’s no chance they’ll make a mistake of voting in the end,” judge Zack Werner said. “So hopefully we’ve got a group of 22 people that everybody is valid and everybody’s worth choosing.”
“We have definitely 22 artists of which I say 15 could win the thing. They’re that good,” Jake Gold added.
“Best year ever ? no question,” Farley Flex said.
The auditions continue on Canadian Idol next Monday at 8 p.m. on CTV.
