The Return of ‘Mrs. Robinson’
Charles Webb, the elusive American writer who penned 1963’s coming-of-age novel “The Graduate,” has signed a publishing deal for a sequel to the classic book.
Random House plans to publish the book in Britain in 2007, according to the Associated Press.
Titled “Home School,” the new novel returns to the love triangle of impressionable Benjamin Braddock, sweet girl-next-door Elaine, and her seductive mother, Mrs. Robinson. The book picks up their lives about 10 years later, as Braddock and Elaine raise their two children in upstate New York while trying to fend off Mrs. Robinson.
“It was quite a while till I could figure out what they did next,” said the 66-year-old Webb.
The 1967 film adaptation of “The Graduate” launched Dustin Hoffman to star status. The movie made millions, and is considered an important part of Hollywood history.
