Disney Films to be Sold Online
You’ll soon be able to (legally) enjoy Simba, Dopey and Flower, the lovable skunk, through the speed and convenience of your internet connection.
CinamaNow has partnered with Walt Disney Co. to sell the studio’s movies via the Internet, according to Reuters.
The download-to-own movies will be available online they same day they’re released on DVD.
“The main thing is Disney chose us to be first for them to go out with electronic sell-through” on the Internet, said the president of CinemaNow, Bruce Eisen. “We take that as a real nice vote of confidence.”
The first release will arrive on June 6th in the form of basketball drama “Glory Road.” Prices will be similar to DVD purchases, at around $20 US for new titles and $10 for older movies, but customers won’t be able to burn the downloads to DVDs.
Many Hollywood studios, including Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures Entertainment, currently offer downloads of their films.
