‘Lost’ Season Finale Gives Cryptic Answers
Last night’s season finale of “Lost” shed some light on the island’s mysteries, but also left audiences with a new set of questions.
The two-hour episode saw the return of Desmond, a one-time occupant of the hatch. After fleeing earlier in the season, viewers learned that Desmond had sailed away from the island, only to have his boat somehow return.
Audiences also found out that the numbered sequence entered into the computer every 108 minutes actually serves a purpose: safely diffusing a buildup of electromagnetic energy. It is also revealed that Desmond’s failure to do so may have caused the crash of Oceanic flight 815.
Finally, Michael successfully delivers Jack, Hurley, Sawyer and Kate to the Others in exchange for his son, Walt. Hurley is released back to the camp to warn the rest of the castaways against retaliating. Jack, Sawyer and Kate look on as Michael leaves by boat, apparently headed towards rescue.
The episode ends with two men in some sort of remote monitoring station. A message flashes on their computer, indicating a detection of electromagnetic energy. One of the men makes a phone call, answered by Desmond’s old girlfriend. “I think we found it,” he tells her.
