Protestors Target Stratford Launch
There will be at least a few uninvited guests at the Stratford Festival’s gala opening on May 29. Anti-poverty activists are planning to protest the event, according to the CBC.
The protest is being organized by the Perth County Coalition Against Poverty, but activists from the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty and Ontario Common Front will also be in attendance.
The groups are demanding a 40 per cent increase in welfare rates from the Ontario government.
They reportedly chose the Stratford Festival gala as a target because prominent government officials, business leaders and community members ? or “a Who’s Who of the rich and vile,” according to OCAP ? are often present.
