Microsoft and MTV Launch Urge
Microsoft has launched its newest version of the MediaPlayer in an attempt to get some of the business that iTunes has.
Microsoft has partnered with MTV to launch Urge, a subscription-based music service to compete with Apple’s iTunes, Reuters reports.
Urge features a music catalog of more than 2 million tracks, dedicated blogs, news and features, 130 radio stations and 500 preprogrammed playlists.
Unlike purchasing music, users pay a monthly subscription fee to download tracks, so the program is more like renting music than buying it. However, industry experts fear that the market for renting music is not as big as the market for buying music.
