The CRTC approved a new Pay-TV service Thursday, which will provide competition to The Movie Network and Movie Central, the CBC reports.

Allarco Entertainment Inc. received permission from the broadcast regulatory network over three other applicants: Spotlight Television Ltd., Channel Zero and Archambault Group Inc.

The new digital channel will broadcast movies, specialty programs, specials and mini-series in High-Definition format nationally. It will be the first national pay-TV channel, as The Movie Network and Movie Central are regional channels (TMN is broadcasted in Eastern Canada, while Movie Central is broadcasted in the West).

The CRTC has given Allarco 24 months to get the station up and running.
