Former Cat Stevens to Release New Album
Yusuf Islam, the popular musician formerly known as Cat Stevens, is returning with a new album, reports Reuters. The singer converted to Islam, dropped the Cat Stevens moniker, and left the music business in the late 1970s.
Three albums have been released under Islam?s current name, though they are largely spoken word recordings. In the lead-up to the war in Iraq, however, he released a new version of his hit song ?Peace Train.?
Islam personally felt the effects of the American-led war on terrorism in 2004, when he was denied entry to the U.S. after showing up on a watch list.
?There were one hundred reasons for leaving the music industry back in 1979, not least because I had found what I was looking for spiritually,? said Islam. ?Today there are perhaps one hundred and one good reasons why I feel right making music and singing about life in this fragile world again.?
The album is not yet titled, but is slated for a fall release.
