Aras Baskausas, the 24-year-old Yoga instructor from Santa Monica, California, was crowned the sole survivor on Survivor Panama: Exile Islands.

Baskausas beat out Danielle DiLorenzo, a 24-year-old sales rep from Boston, who had won the show’s final immunity challenge, balancing on a lily pad. Instead of taking Terry Dietz to the final two, DiLorenzo took Baskausas.

The two-hour finale, which aired on CBS and Global last night, began with the cliffhanger from Thursday’s episode where, due to a tie during tribal council, Di Lorenzo and Cirie Fields had to build a fire in order to win the right to stay in the final three. Di Lorenzo built the fire first.

In a poll taken by host Jeff Probst during the reuinion special after the announcement of the winner was announced, the jury would have voted 5-2 in favour of Dietz, had Di Lorenzo taken him instead.

It seems that the jury of Survivor castoffs were not the only ones against DiLorenzo winning. According to e Online, Probst called her one of “the weakest players who’ve ever played the game.”

Survivor’s 13th edition will kick off in the fall season and is set to be located in the Cook Islands.
