George Clooney Speaks Out on Darfur
George Clooney has made Darfur his business.
Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, the actor urged people at attend rallies being held across the U.S. on Sunday. The rallies have been set up to “pressure Khartoum to stop what Washington says amounts to genocide in Darfur,” reports Reuters.
Clooney acknowledged that he was using his star power in an effort to stop the genocide occurring in Sudan’s Darfur region.
“What we cannot do is turn our heads and look away and hope that this will somehow disappear,” Clooney said, surrounded by Republican Senator Sam Brownback and Senator Barack Obama, a Democrat. “It’s the first genocide of the 21st century.”
