American Idol host Ryan Seacrest versus show judge Paula Abdul? It’s a reality television catfight of epic proportions. Too bad they’re so at odds they can’t even publicly agree on whether they’re fighting or not.

While Seacrest says he and Abdul aren’t speaking to each other, Abdul says that reports of a feud are “ridiculous.”

Of his relationship with Abdul, Seacrest was quoted in People magazine as saying, “I don’t know what the deal is. It’s very awkward.”

While the TV show host and radio personality frequently butts heads on air with judge and Idol “meanie” Simon Cowell, Seacrest told People that “Simon and I go back and forth with each other, but it’s in a different way.”

The magazine also reported that Seacrest hadn’t talked to Abdul about the rift. “You know, I walked past her dressing room the other day and there was a group of people gathered in front of the door, so I can’t even talk to her,” he said.

In a statement Tuesday to the Associated Press, Abdul said, “Reports of a feud are ridiculous. We are one funny dysfunctional family. There’s nothing but love.”

It seems as if the two television stars have been throwing verbal punches at each other in the media lately. On a recent guest appearance on “The Tonight Show,” Seacrest joked with host Jay Leno about Abdul’s “loopy” behaviour on an episode of American Idol.

A few weeks later, when Abdul sat down with Leno for her own guest appearance on “The Tonight Show,” she told the audience that Seacrest was not dating “Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher, as the tabloids have been reporting.

“He only kisses the mirror,” Abdul said. “And honestly, do you think Teri Hatcher is that desperate of a housewife?”

Ouch.
