Tom Cruise has assured the world that he didn’t really buy a pacifier for Katie Holmes, Reuters reports.

In a television interview with Diane Sawyer, Cruise cleared up the “silent birth” rumours and also confirmed that his pregnant bride-to-be has converted to his religion, Scientology. ABC released clips from the interview as part of the publicity craze over Cruise that will only get more frantic as his child’s birth and his upcoming movie draw near.

Cruise told Sawyer that the media has exaggerated the concept of silent birth, which emphasizes a calm, quiet atmosphere in the delivery room. “It’s basically just respecting the mother, you know, and helping to be quiet. (But) not the mother. The mother makes as much noise… you know, she’s going through it. She does what she’s gotta do, OK?” He denied a rumour that he had bought an adult pacifier for Holmes.

“We’re there, you know, with doctors,” he added. “If she needs an epidural, she’s gonna get her epidural.”

Although Cruise said “you can be Catholic and be a Scientologist. You can be Jewish and be a Scientologist,” he acknowledged that he and Holmes are “just Scientologists.” He brushed off reports of tension with Holmes’ parents, who are devout Catholics.
