Katie Couric Heading to CBS
She was a longtime member of the NBC family, but Katie Couric is about to leave home.
Couric, current host of NBC?s The Today Show, might pack her bags and join the CBS network, according to several reports this week.
And the move, which has been rumoured for over a year, could become official as soon as this week.
Couric?s contract with NBC doesn?t end until May, but both networks want to clear everything up sooner rather than later so they can move forward with programming and advertising plans.
This week coincidentally , marks the 15th anniversary for Couric as host of The Today Show.
Couric would take over as CBS Evening News anchor, filling the void left by Dan Rather when he left last year. No official replacement had ever been named.
Couric approached NBC recently, asking for permission to talk with other networks, which they granted. NBC and CBS won?t deny the move, but won?t confirm it yet.
“I will be delighted if she came,” Bob Schieffer, Rather?s temporary replacement, told the AP Tuesday. “I think she’ll be a great addition to a very good news team … I’ve known Katie for years and I think the world of her.”
Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry are rumoured replacements for Couric.
