Don Knotts, who played Deputy Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show,” has died He was 81.
Knotts died of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, a spokesperson for TV Land told the Associated Press.
TV Land continues to air episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, as well as Three’s Company, another show Knotts appeared in.
Knotts last appeared in Chicken Little, lending his voice for the character called Mayor Turkey Lurkey. One of his last public appearances was showing up in a Desperate Housewives spoof for the TV Land Awards last year.
Several of his final roles were voice work: a Scooby Doo project, Odd Job Jack, Tom Sawyer and Hermie and Friends.
Knotts appeared on television and in films for over 50 years.
