Apple’s iTunes Surpasses One Billion Songs Sold
Earlier this month, Apple posted the countdown to reach 1 billion songs sold through its iTunes Music Store since the store debuted in 2003.
Late Wednesday night, Apple finally surpassed this milestone, making the purchaser, Alex Ostrovsky from West Bloomfield, Michigan, a very happy person.
Alex purchased Speed of Sound by Coldplay, but also received a brand new 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB Video iPods, $10,000 in iTunes money and Apple has established a scholarship in his name towards the world renowned Juilliard School of Music.
?I hope that every customer, artist and music company executive takes a moment today to reflect on what we?ve achieved together during the past three years,? said Steve Jobs, Apple?s CEO. ?Over one billion songs have now been legally purchased and downloaded around the globe, representing a major force against music piracy and the future of music distribution as we move from CDs to the Internet.?
