Rolling Stones Censored During Superbowl Halftime
Two of the three songs performed by the Rolling Stones during the Superbowl halftime show were censored, the result of a five-second delay imposed by ABC.
A sexually explicit word was edited out of both Start Me Up and Rough Justice. The only song to escape the vigilant ears of censors was (I Can?t Get No) Satisfaction.
ABC was the first network to ever impose a five-second delay on the legendary halftime show. This decision was undoubtedly triggered by Janet Jackson?s wardrobe malfunction two years ago, when one of her breasts was exposed on live TV during a performance with Justin Timberlake.
Other performers on Sunday included Stevie Wonder, who sang a string of his hits with the help of John Legend, Joss Stone and India.Arie; and Aretha Franklin, who collaborated with Aaron Neville and Dr. John to sing the national anthem.
