The Constant Gardener was the only British entry in the Hollywood-dominated BAFTA nominations.

Reuters reports that the British Academy of Film and Television Arts will hand out the awards on February 19. The event was moved in 2001 from April to February to fall between the Golden Globes and the Oscars to garner some more publicity, although a BAFTA win is no guarantee of Oscar success.

Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz garnered acting nominations among The Constant Gardener’s total 10.

George Clooney will be competing against himself in the Best Supporting Actor category. He was nominated for Syriana and Good Night, And Good Luck. He also has nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Brokeback Mountain and Crash both got nine nominations, including Best Picture.

The British film industry experienced a slump last year, but out of all the major markets, it was the only one to show growth. It was up one per cent.
