After debuting a week ago at No. 2, Jamie Foxx has overtaken Mary Blige to claim top spot on the Billboard album chart.

Despite a 67 per cent slip to sales of 200,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan, Foxx?s ?Unpredictable? is the first album to reach No. 1 without having debuted at the top since Ray Charles’ ?Genius Loves Company? in February 2005.

Foxx also becomes the fourth artist to have won an Academy Award for acting (coincidentally for his portrayal of Charles in Ray) and achieved a No. 1 album, reports Billboard.

He was followed in the top 10 by Mary J. Blige, Eminem, the Notorious B.I.G., Carrie Underwood, Now 20, Nickelback, Mariah Carey, Black Eyed Peas and Chris Brown.

Sales were up 5 per cent over the same period last year, but didn’t make up for a year-long slump

Downloads also made big news, with digital track downloads numbering a record-setting 19.9 million last week, reports USA Today.

That number eclipsed the previous record of 9.0 million set last week.

The top download, DFL’s ?Laffy Taffy,? sold a record 175,000 copies, more than three times what it sold the previous week and nearly topping Foxx’s album sales.
