Attorneys for pop singer Jessica Simpson have asked the Los Angeles judge in her divorce trial to step down.

Papers filed Wednesday by Simpson’s lawyers say Judge Michael P. Linfield could be ‘prejudiced’ against her in the case, TV show Extra reports.

Simpson filed for divorce from Nick Lachey on Dec. 16 citing irreconcilable differences.

But People magazine says a source told them the move was only technical since the couple are seeking to have their case heard by a private judge.

“The goal is to have a private judge because both sides want this to be amicable and private,” the source told People.
