Ashlee Simpson Collapses in Tokyo, Hospitalized
Ashlee Simpson?s rough year just got worse. The singer, currently touring in Tokyo in support of her new chart-topping album, I Am Me, collapsed Thursday and remains in an undisclosed hospital, said her publicist Rob Shuter on Friday. The singer?s father, Joe Simpson, told MTV that his daughter is hooked up to an IV.
The younger Simpson had just finished performing her single, ?Boyfriend? on MTV Japan when she told the audience that she felt sick. “I love you guys,” she said before exiting, but collapsed moments later in an elevator.
There has been no official statement yet on the cause of Simpson?s fainting spell but Us Weekly reports that an unnamed source close to the family blames it on exhaustion.
“She’s wanted to prove over and over to her fans that she can perform live after what happened on SNL last year,” the magazine quotes.
Simpson has been making headlines since her career took off last year thanks to a lip-syncing mishap on SNL in October, 2004, a recent drunken episode at a Toronto McDonald?s, and her pop star sister Jessica Simpson?s separation from husband Nick Lachey last month.
Simpson was scheduled to appear on Monday?s Radio Music Awards, broadcast live on NBC from Las Vegas. She will be replaced by American Idol Bo Bice.
