Aeon Flux did not turn into a total Aeon Flop, but the weekend box office isn’t anything to brag about.

Comingsoon.net reports that the sci-fi action flick, based on the MTV animated series, faced off against Harry Potter and lost, ending up in second place with an estimated $13.1 million. The weekend’s only new wide release, Aeon Flux stars Oscar-winner Charlize Theron in the title role and reportedly cost $60 million to make.

However, it’s usually a slow week after Thanksgiving, and Paramount Pictures is said to be pleased with the opening. In any case, it’s a decent figure compared to Theron’s last movie, the drama North Country.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, now in its third weekend, made $20.4 million, bringing its total up to $230 million, better than the three previous installments in the franchise. It will likely lose its crown next weekend to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, also in its third weekend, made $10 million. Family comedy Yours, Mine & Ours fell to fourth place, and romcom Just Friends moved up to fifth.

In limited release, the George Clooney political thriller Syriana earned roughly $490 thousand. It will expand nationwide next weekend.
