A hip-hop staple is gone.

The dreadlocks belonging to Busta Rhymes are no more.

For the first time in 16 years, Rhymes can be seen without dreads, after he cut them off during a photo shoot.

Rhymes says he has been growing the dreads since 1989, when he was 17 years old.

“I signed my deal, I said I ain’t cutting my hair no more,” Rhymes says in a video, released by his label. (Watch the video) “I don’t have to.”

Rhymes’ next album, “The Big Bang,” is scheduled for release in early 2006.

The video for “Touch It,” the first single off the album, was shot last week in Los Angeles and directed by Benny Boom. It will premiere next week.
