Elton John To Marry in Civil Ceremony
Elton John is planning to wed his partner of 12 years, David Furnish, on Dec. 21, the first day civil marriages will be permitted in England.
The 58-year-old rocker declared his intentions in an interview with gay lifestyle magazine Attitude, which hits newsstands on Friday. The ceremony will be a tiny affair, attended only by the parents of John and Furnish, 43.
“Out of respect for their (our parents’) support, we want to just keep it small — not to make a ballyhoo of the ceremony,” he said.
“There will be a party somewhere, but the day will be very low key and we’ll take our parents to lunch afterwards.”
The Civil Partnership Act will come into force on Dec. 5, but same-sex couples must post a notification at a registry office first, meaning that the very first ceremonies will take place on Dec. 21.
