After months of rumours and what seemed like false reports, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have announced that they have split.

Almost three years and a month to the day they wed (Oct. 26, 2002), the power couple revealed that they’ve had enough.

“After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time,” the couple said in a joint statement.

Over the past year, reports of their split popped up so often that people assumed each one was a lie. Some may not even believe this report, even though the statement came from the couple.

But the signs have been there for a long time. The couple has been spotted partying alone during the last few weeks. They’ve appeared at events separately.

In an interview last week with andPOP, Jessica’s sister, Ashlee Simpson, refused to comment on her sister’s marriage. Her publicist instructed that andPOP ask no Jessica-Nick questions, a move that implies that things were not perfect.
