Everything is about to change, or so the tagline would have us believe. Does this mean the box office will be rejuvenated this weekend? You can bet a Galleon on it.

Comingsoon.net reports that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth instalment of the famous boy wizard’s adventures, opened on Friday with an estimated $36.4 million. A projected guess would put the movie in sixth place on the list of best opening days ever. Although that’s behind the previous chapter of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (which ranks fourth with $38.3 million on its first day), it would still be the third-biggest Friday in box office history, trailing just Spider-Man ($39.4 million) and Prisoner of Azkaban.

Meanwhile, the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line performed solidly with $7.6 million. Chicken Little was pushed into third place, adding $3.5 million to its total of $87.9 million.
