George Romero, Stephen King and Other Thrillers
George Romero and Stephen King? Be very, very afraid.
Variety reports that the zombie lord will direct Chesapeake Films’ adaptation of the Stephen King novel From a Buick 8. Buick 8 is the story of a state trooper who is killed on the side of the road. The man’s colleagues try to help his son cope, but then the boy discovers his father’s “dark secret,” which happens to be hidden in the barracks’ back shed. Is it bad that this reminds me of Secret Window?
Chesapeake Films also has The Poker Club lined up for director Tim McCann. Based on the suspense thriller by Ed Gorman, it’s about four buddies who accidentally kill a burglar in the kitchen during their weekly poker night. It sounds more like a comedy to me, but I’ll take their word for it. A January production date in Manitoba is being planned.
In sort of related news, Comingsoon.net reports that Icon Entertainment International acquired the rights to another poker thriller. Don’t confuse Poker Night with The Poker Club. I know, it’s difficult.
Poker Night is about a rookie detective played by Hayden Christensen who wakes to find himself tied to a chair in a creepy basement. He’s been kidnapped by a serial killer who wants to torture him… We Saw this, didn’t we?
