The list of performers and presenters for the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards keeps growing, just days before the star-studded bash is set to descend upon the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.
Joining the lineup of presenters are Jermaine Dupri, Nelly Furtado and Benfica footballer Nuno Gomes, according to MTV.uk.
Already-announced guest presenters for Thursday’s ceremony include Brittany Murphy, Craig David, Gael Garcia Bernal, Jared Leto, Alison Goldfrapp, Anastacia, John Legend and Sugababes. Portuguese football hero Luis Figo will also present one of the 29 awards.
The 12th annual EMAs will be hosted by British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, known for his Ali G alter-ego. Cohen will host the show in his fictional role of Borat Sagdiyev, a hapless television reporter from Kazakhstan.
British bands Coldplay and Gorillaz lead this year?s nominations with five each, followed by U.S. pop singer Gwen Stefani, who got four nods for best female and pop act, best album and best video.
Coldplay, who will perform at the event, are up for best group, song, album, rock and UK and Ireland act.
Gorillaz are vying for best group, song, video, pop and UK and Ireland act. Hologram technology will be used to recreate the band’s four animated characters ? Noodle, Murdoc, 2D and Russel ? in 3-D on stage as part of their performance.
According to MTV, it will be the first time that the state-of-the-art technology will be used for a live music television performance.
In addition to Coldplay and Gorillaz, viewers can also look forward to performances from Foo Fighters, Green Day, Madonna, Akon, System Of A Down, Robbie Williams, Pussycat Dolls, Shakira and The Black Eyed Peas.
Madonna will give her first live TV performance of ?Hung Up,? the first single from her disco-inspired album ?Confessions on a Dance Floor,? which will be released Nov. 15.
The singer last appeared at the EMAs in 2000 in Stockholm, where she won the best dance and best female categories.
U2, Green Day, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and James Blunt are among the other nominated acts with three nods each.
For the first time, the MTV awards will include a category for best African act.
The awards show takes place in a different European city every year, with Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, London and Rotterdam serving as previous venues.
This year?s ceremony, taking place at Lisbon’s Atlantic Pavillion, will be broadcast live on MTV in Europe and the U.S., and at a later time on more than 30 major television stations worldwide.
Organizers estimate that more than one billion people will watch at least part of the show, making it Europe’s biggest music event.
All EMA categories are voted for online by MTV viewers worldwide, apart from Best Video and the Free Your Mind award, which are chosen exclusively by MTV Europe viewers.
