Apple’s Fifth Generation iPod Supports Video Playback
Apple today released its fifth generation iPod, with support for video playback, alongside its audio and picture capabilities.
The new iPod features a 2.5 inch colour screen and can hold over 150 hours of video. The new models ship in 30GB and 60GB sizes at US$299 and US$399 respectively.
“The new iPod is the best music player ever?it’s 30 percent thinner and has 50 percent more storage than its predecessor?yet it sells for the same price and plays stunning video on its 2.5-inch color screen,” said Steve Jobs, Apple?s CEO. “Because millions of people around the world will buy this new iPod to play music, it will quickly become the most popular portable video player in history.”
Also introduced today was iTunes 6, bringing full support for the new video features. Users can purchase over 2,000 music videos, 6 short films from Pixar and TV shows such as Lost and Desperate Housewives. All video content starts at just $1.99 and includes the same limitations as the audio files.
The new iPod’s can be purchased at apple.com and are available for both Mac and Windows.
